VEC2TLE Version 9435
--------------------
This file lists the updates made to Vector to Two-Line Elements (VEC2TLE)
for version 9435. The previous release of this software was VEC2TLE
version 9425a. This is a significant update with features added to make
VEC2TLE easier to use. Most of the changes are addressing suggestions,
comments, or other feedback received from users. The following are the
new features:
1. Streamlined User Processing
VEC2TLE requires the user to identify the Vector Input File (VIF)
whenever a state vector is to be automatically read. In previous
versions of VEC2TLE, when the user attempted to read a state vector and
the vector file had not been identified, the program would inform the
user of this requirement and terminate the automatic read vector
process.
Beginning with VEC2TLE version 9435, the user may now identify the
vector file from within the automatic vector read process. In circumstances
where no "VIF" has been identified, the program prompts the user for the
file name from within the automatic vector read process. Now the user need
only make a single menu selection for the entire automatic vector read
sequence.
This "streamlining" was also extended to the Keplerian Two-Line
Elements which must be read to perform the both the impulsive maneuver
function and the TLE re-epoch to the ascending node. As with the vectors,
if the TLE file has not been selected the user is now prompted automatically
from within either processing sequence.
2. Context-Sensitive Help in Status Line
A context-sensitive help phrase now appears in the status line (at
the bottom of the screen) for each menu item prior to selection. This phrase
replaces the standard status line and provides a short description of the
function of the particular menu item.
3. Errors Corrected: Estimated Rev
VEC2TLE has had the ability to automatically estimate a revolution
number for an orbit beginning with version 9421. The revolution
estimate was properly written to the Keplerian TLE, but was not written
correctly to the saved Vector Input File (OUTPUT.VIF) when a state
vector was manually entered. This error has been corrected. In this same
process, the ability to estimate rev for the SGP orbit theory has been
corrected (program abort occurred previously).
4. Drag Estimation Added for SGP Orbit Theory
The ability to estimate drag has been extended to the SGP orbit theory.
The ability to estimate Bstar from ndot/2 (and vice versa) has also been
extended to the SGP orbit theory. These had been previously only implemented
for the SGP4 orbit theory.
5. Quick Start User Instructions
A set of "Quick Start" user instructions have been written for VEC2TLE.
These "cookbook" procedures are found in the QUICKV.DOC file. These
are step-by-step instructions for each of the major processes performed
by VEC2TLE. These instructions were developed at the request of some
users who found it difficult to get VEC2TLE to produce the desired
result.
6. Command-Line / Batch File of VEC2TLE
Though technically not an enhancement to VEC2TLE, a command-line
version of the vector to Keplerian elements conversion process is now
provided to those who register VEC2TLE and pay the professional
registration (or upgrade with diskette) fee. This new program V2KEP uses
the exact same subroutines as VEC2TLE, but reads command-line parameters
instead of the standard VEC2TLE user interface. This program was written
in response to requests for a command-line version of VEC2TLE that could
be run from a batch file.
